...but I got some new goodies for the Spitfire :) 940g alloy wishbones to replace the 2.3kg cast iron lumps in the rear suspension. Next up is sorting out the radiator bracket and stitch-welding the chassis then it can be sent off for chemical treatment :)

Isn't that a lot of expense to save a kilo?

What are the curved around?

A reasonable expense, but I had to get new wishbones anyway so part of it is offset by that. Plus, once you've cut a lot of holes and replaced bits with fibreglass there's only so much weight you can lose cheaply...

The standard suspension has a big rubber doughnut in place of an outer CV joint (google triumph rotoflex suspension) so it has to curve around that.
Mine will have those replaced with modern CV joints so the curve isn't necessary, but these wishbones are designed to suit both...

What is that on your unsprung, about 5-8% cut or so? Not quite as significant as an allow wheel swap, but far from meaningless.

stitch-welding the chassis then it can be sent off for chemical treatment
I wish I were this close to any sort of finish on my Ranchero, by the way. It's going to be a bit more welding, then sandblasting, then more welding, still more welding...

13% from a stock rotoflex setup :)
The alloy wheels are actually a little heavier than the stock steels, but they are wider with wider tyres...

Oh I've got lots of that still to do :) I've got a quarter of the floor to do on the body, and a fuel door cutout to source and weld into the rear wing. After that that should be the last of the welding to do though :)
Mine's just a shit-ton of expenditure left and then I can crack on with the work...

I've got mine to where I just need a bit of tunnel work to make the Mustang floorboards drop straight in... but then the little bit behind where the floorboards end I'll have to be making from scratch. Then there's the closing up the door posts, the closing up the heater box, the A-pillar fixing, the roof welding, the side quarter welds, the radiator bracket building... I'm swamped for quite a while. I'm doing a reverse from you re: fuel fill in the fender, though - I'm making mine disappear from the side of the fender, and going behind the left lamp.

Ahhhh... that makes sense. I tried googling photos but kept coming up with pics of transverse leaf springs. Looked like a prehistoric 4/5 scale Corvette!

It is a bit like a mini corvette :) you can see it in this picture. The leaf spring forms the upper wishbone, and the lower wishbone is at the bottom. Between the two is the big rubber doughnut :)

You've definitely got you work cut out there :) cool idea with the fuel filler behind the lamp
Oh, i've still got your rocker covers and cortina tail lamps when you need them. Don't forget :)

Got any grand ideas for what might be worth going to in the UK in around three-four months or so? That might be a good time for me to wander in the direction of your shores.

Hmmm, the Goodwood breakfast club is every first sunday of the month during the summer months. The FoS would be a must-see fi you're in the vacinity at the right time, even for just a day...
Brands Hatch would also be a good venue to go visit. The calendar's here :) I'd recommend BTCC for really mental racing and I've been to the CSCC classics day before and that's very good :)
I haven't been there in well over a decade, but Brooklands motor museum's another good place to go. Must go back there myself soon actually :)

http://www.brandshatch.co.uk/calendar/2015/… This one looks like a prizewinner - might hit that. I'd not heard Brooklands got a Concorde either - fascinating.
